Obituary

Thomas Leroy Scott, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving family. He welcomed joining his Lord, his wife, Esther, of 56 years, who preceded him in death in 2001. Leroy's philosophy of life was to be kind, generous, and to be actively involved in life, until two weeks prior to his death; attending church, reading, walking daily, bowling, maintaining his yard and home, plus keeping in touch with family and friends. In prior years he was an avid fisherman, golfer and traveled extensively with his wife.
He was born July 5, 1919 in Delaware County, the son of Ora A. and Henrietta (Hayden) Scott. He attended Harrison Twp. Schools and graduated from Ridgeville High School. He was a WW II Army Air Corps veteran serving in the Middle East Theatre. He retired in 1976 from Warner Gear as the head of fleet maintenance. He was member of American Legion, Masonic Lodge #46, First Baptist Church, Muncie and the Bykota class at church.
Leroy is survived by nieces and nephews, Etta (Lowell) Barlow, Mary Ann Lorance, J. David (Diane)Benadum, Gerald (Nancy) Benadum, Ronald (Marcella) Scott, Linda (Richard) Manual, Jim Scott ,Virgil (Carol) Scott, Daniel (Elaine) Scott, Janice (William) Walker, Judy McWilliams, Phillip (Karen) Jones, Kenneth Wayne Hiatt, Leonard Rex Hiatt; two in-laws, Maxine Jones, Zena Burkholder. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Joseph Scott; sister, Geraldine Benadum; niece, Bonnie Anderson; nephews, Earl Ray Miller, Marvin Miller , Phillip Benadum.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, IN 47303 with Pastor Wade Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home. A Masonic Memorial service will be held on Sunday at 4:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Delaware Co. Special Olympics, P.O. Box 176, Muncie, IN 47308
