HARTFORD CITY - Virgil Owen Davis, 81, died at 2:53 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 15, 1929 in Hartford City to George Virgil Davis and Ola G. (Overmyer) Davis. Both parents precede him in death.
Virgil graduated from Hartford City High School in 1947. He married Patricia "Patty" J. (Reynolds) Davis on September 17, 1951 in Hartford City at Trinity United Methodist Church.
He retired after forty years as a Brick Mason in 1991. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as a Deacon. He also was a member of Blackford Masonic Lodge #106 F & AM where he was the Past Worshipful Master, the Moyer Pooler American Legion Post in Hartford City, Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne and former Director and Past President of the Hartford City Cemetery Association. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and yardwork.
Virgil will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-nine years, Patricia "Patty" J. Davis of Hartford City; son, William "Bill" O. (wife, Cheri L.) Davis of Westfield, IN; Traci A. (husband, Mike A.) Williams of Hartford City; grandchildren, Andrew Ramey, Nicholas Ramey, Shelby Davis and Taylor Davis; sister, Vera L. Turner of Marion; brothers, Jerry L. (wife, Electa) Davis of Warsaw; James J. (wife, Myrna) Davis of Lapel, IN; Robert G. (wife, Claudia) Davis of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Virgil will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City, IN with Rev. Keith Kincaid of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 and from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
