Mr. Vurtis L. Jones, 82, Muncie died Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Muncie Health and Rehabilitation.
A native of Bedford, Indiana he was the son of Cecil Jones and Nellie Baker Polk. He attended Bedford schools. Mr. Jones retired from Fisher Body in Marion in 1988 following 16 years service.
Vurtis was a member of Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed bird watching, golfing and taking care of his house plants. Survivors include two daughters, Jill Jones, Hartford City and Janice Alva, Muncie; one son, Myron Jones; one brother, Lowell Jones, (wife Ilene), Yorktown; two sisters, Elsie Long, Muncie and Norma Sue Doty, Bedford; and two special friends, Naoma Henderson, Yorktown and Tammie Couch, Muncie; five grandchildren, Michell Bowen, Lawerence Bowen, Shawnna Davis, Ashleigh Jones and Sarah Jones; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Vurtis was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; his parents; one son, Michael Jones; one grandson, Ryan Jones; and two brothers, Harold Jones and Densil Jones.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in Parson Mortuary with Pastor Linda Adams officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services Wednesday.
