Walter Henry Wilber, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026 at the age of 88. Born on April 9, 1938, in Queensville, Indiana, to the late Walter Dale and Vida Faye (Cooper) Wilber. Walter was the youngest sibling in the family that included Bill, Ruth, and Roy. Walter’s sister Ruth, who had a very special place in his heart, remains cherishing his memory.
Walter and his first wife Pat were blessed with children Rhonda Burris (Tommy), Ricky, Randy (special friend Amy), Roger (special friend Michelle), Ryan (Kim) and Russell (Kelli), as well as 13 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Walter added step children through his marriage to Joyce: Jenny, Mike, Cindy, Karen, and Jeff. His last marriage to June gained step children Thomas, Dennis, and Dana. Walter’s memory is also cherished by brothers-in-law and sister-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
Walter worked several years at several places before finding a career he thoroughly enjoyed, driving a semi. Walter felt lucky to be able to earn a living while getting to see all of the beautiful scenery of the United States that came with driving a semi throughout the country. Walter spent a few years of long haul driving for different companies, eventually working for Crete Carriers which, as he said, was the best trucking company to be able to work for.
In the early 1970’s Walter asked Jesus to come into his heart and forgive his sins. This was the beginning of Walter’s journey with Christ. This journey involved Walter getting to be a part of several gospel music groups in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Walter also performed in local nursing homes as well as played bass and guitar in churches he attended. Walter lived the last half of his life doing his best to be a man of faith and to show his love for God.
A visitation to honor Walter’s life will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, located at 10501 IN-3, Muncie, Indiana 47303. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Gardens of Memories Cemetery. Family, friends, and all who knew Walter are invited to attend and celebrate the meaningful life he led.
