Obituary

CLAYPOOL - Wendell D. Brown, 83, received his Final Promotion on Thursday, January 8th, 2015 at his home from complications related to heart disease.
Wendell, known to his friends as "Brownie", was born Jan. 16th, 1931 in Matthews, Indiana to the late Lawrence Brown and Helen (Cox) Brown. He was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School class of ''49.
Brownie was employed at the New York Central Railroad and then Conrail Railroad for 27 years. He then was employed at the US Postal Service as a Rural Carrier for the Claypool Post Office for 21 years. Brownie was also employed at Cardinal Center in Warsaw, IN for 10 years as a handyman. He also mowed the side ditches for Kosciusko County for 4 years. Besides his regular jobs, he also worked as a TV repairman and was the Treasurer for the Town of Claypool as well as owner of the Shell Gas station on state route 15 near Claypool. Whenever anyone in town needed a television or radio or washing machine, dryer or refrigerator fixed, they would call Brownie.
When Claypool decided to start a Kindergarten in 1959, Brownie was involved in organizing the kindergarten for its first year even though his oldest child would not start kindergarten until the following year. Brownie helped to build the long tables and chairs in primary colors for the class held in the basement of a church in town.
Wendell was also one of the original organizers of the Claypool Boy Scout Troop 15 during the late 60''s and remained involved for several years.
Wendell was a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Vance) Brown of Claypool as well as his brother Hubert (Ceclile) of Upland, IN and sons, Michael (Jann) of Union, Ohio, Keith (Sheri) of Claypool, IN and Kevin (Candi) of Ft. Wayne, IN and his daughter Brenda (Glenn) McClendon of Cincinnati, Ohio as well as his very special son Henry Brown (Lyndah) of Columbia City, IN. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Saturday, January 10th, from 4:00-8:00 at Titus Funeral Home 2000 East Sheridan, Warsaw, Indiana (phone 574-267-3104) The Funeral service will be at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Route 3, Muncie, Indiana (phone 765-284-1020) on Sunday January 11th with viewing from 3:00-4:00 and the funeral immediately following. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Delaware County Honor Guard following Sunday''s service. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
