William "Max" Lewis, 82, passed away 12:43 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009 while in the company of family members at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Max was born in Albany, IN on March 30, 1927, the son of the late John and Pauline (Wilson) Lewis.
He served in the U.S. Army in WW II.
He retired from Kerr Glass in 1984 after working forty-one years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 227, and The Moose Lodge, both in Dunkirk.
Max is survived by his son, William "Pete" Lewis (wife, Kathy) of Indianapolis; three sisters, Jeannette Smith of Vancouver, WA, Sarah Bantz, of Muncie, and Donna James (husband, Larry) of Dunkirk; a brother, Fred Lewis (wife, Jackie) of Anderson; he is also survived by his two grandchildren, Mitchell and Joe Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Lewis; and his brother, Herbert Lewis.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at MJS Mortuaries in Dunkirk, with Lay Minister Norman Baker officiating.
Friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at MJS Mortuaries in Dunkirk.
Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN.
American Legion Post 227 Dunkirk is in charge of Military graveside services.
