William R. "Bill" Alfont, 65, of Muncie, IN died Friday February 2, 2007 in Sebring, FL. He was born on July 19, 1941 in Muncie, IN the son of William Raymond and Harriette (White) Alfont. Bill graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1959. In 1960 he married Marsha Wehlage whom he had two sons and one daughter with, she survives. On February 29, 1988 he married Katherine J. (Himes) Alfont whom also survives.
Bill''s greatest love of life was spending time with his family and friends. He retired as a firefighter from the Muncie fire department after 22 years of service. He also worked at Hoosier Park in the track maintenance department. He was a member of the Eagles number 231, Masonic Lodge number 229, and the Moose in Apache Junction, AZ. He was the happiest while full-time RVing. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a past president of the Muncie Bowling Association.
Surviving relatives include his wife Katherine Alfont of Muncie; mother, Harriette Alfont of Muncie; mother-in-law, Frantie Raiser of Sebring, FL; two sons, William C.Alfont (wife: Annette) of Muncie; Steven C. Alfont of Portland, IN; one daughter, Tracee J. Simpson (husband: Michael) of Montpelier, IN; three step-daughters, Sheryl Modglin of Muncie; Gaye Acres (husband: Allan) of Cleveland, OH; Renee Lee of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Barbara Undem of Muncie; Thecla Batin (husband: Robert) of Celina, OH; one sister-in-law, Pamela Huffman (husband: Randy) of Muncie; one brother-in-law, Bruce Himes (wife: Marilyn) of Winchester, IN; 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father William Raymond Alfont, one brother Cecil Alfont, 1 granddaughter Amanda Alfont, two brothers-in-law, Willard Hight and Ralph Undem.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday February 8, 2007 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Gordon Jackson will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice or the Little Red Door Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
