William E. "Bill" Lips, Sr., 74, passed away at 12:58 p.m. Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2008 in Blackford Community Hospital, Hartford City.
Bill was born November 5, 1933 in Rolla, Missouri and lived throughout the United States with his parents, Francis W. and Blanche V. (Payne) Lips. On August 4, 1952, he married Nedra Townsend in Marion, moving to Hartford City in 1960. Bill served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Lips was employed as an insurance agent with Metropolitan and Prudential Insurance Companies, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hartford City.
An avid golfer and member of Lakeview County Club, Eaton, Bill enjoyed all sports. He particularly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Nedra; a son, William E. "Bill" Lips, Jr., (wife, Sandy), Montpelier; daughter-in-law, Susan Lips, Pecatonica, IL; four grandchildren, Tara (Grover) Hodges, Adam Lips, Monica Ritter and Justin Lips; five great-grandchildren, Luke Lips, Darrin Hodges, David Hodges, Alicia Ritter and Grayson Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Lips; and a brother, Ronald Lips.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Fr. Dave Newton officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12 and after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Waters Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to St. John's Catholic Church or Little Red Door Cancer Fund.
