William A. "Bill" Slain, 82, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born May 5, 1927 in Muncie, IN the son of Roy Ormel and Zelma G. (Vance) Slain. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson Township School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, honorably serving during WW II.
He had been an ingredient mixer for Marhoefer Corp. for thirty two years prior to their closing. He then worked for Anchor Hocking Glass, as a laborer, prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing and attending church.
He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Brenda Slain, and Bonnie Watkins (husband, Tom), both of Muncie, Ruby Denney (husband, Ron) of Fairview and Rosie Reynolds (husband, Larry), of Winchester; two sons, Randy Slain (wife, Laura) of Kalamazoo, MI and Charles Zeigler of Muncie; fifteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren; a brother, Ivan Slain (wife, Carol) of Upland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a loving wife, Mary; and a brother, Virgil.
A service to celebrate Bill's life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN, with Pastor Jeff Warrell officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetey, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 11 a.m. to service time, Saturday, at the funeral home.
