Obituary

William H. Doody, born on September 7, 1948, in Warsaw, New York, passed away

peacefully on April 9, 2026, in Placida, Florida. He was 77 years old.

Bill’s early years were shaped by his education and athletic pursuits. After

graduating from Warsaw High School in 1966, his passion for learning led him to

Alfred State College, where he continued his studies before graduating from Tri-

State University in 1969. While at Tri-State, Bill became a proud member of the

Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Following his academic achievements, he answered the

call to serve his country by enlisting in the Army in 1971. After completing active

duty, he continued his service for an additional five years with the National Guard.

Bill’s professional life was marked by determination and an entrepreneurial spirit.

After college, he began managing an electrical supply house and went on to

successfully open two lighting showrooms. Demonstrating keen business acumen,

he eventually purchased one of the showrooms. Building on this success, Bill seized

the opportunity to open his own agency, which flourished under his leadership. In

retirement, he remained very active in the American Legion, serving in the Honor

Guard and as Second Vice for four years before becoming Commander for six

months.

Family was at the heart of Bill’s life. He shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with

his beloved wife, Judith (Judy). Together, they raised a loving family that includes

three daughters: Julie Dalton Moore (husband John), Jennifer Doody Goss (husband

Brad), and Danielle Doody Wilke (husband Tyler); two sons: John Dalton (wife Kelli)

and James Dalton Jr.; and nine cherished grandchildren: Seth Moore, Zackary Moore,

Joshua Moore, Conner Goss, Camden Goss, Madison Dalton, Emma Dalton, Sarah

Moore, and Alexis Doody.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, James L. Doody; his mother, Jean Krotz; and

his aunt, Betty Fancher. He is survived by a brother, Thomas Doody.

Throughout his life, Bill found joy in both physical activity and the great outdoors. In

high school, he excelled as an athlete, participating in basketball, football, baseball,

and track—a foundation that inspired him to jog regularly until later in life, when

health challenges intervened. His morning jogs were not only a time for exercise but

also a time for prayer and reflection as he planned his day ahead. Bill also cherished

deer hunting trips with his father and Uncle Charley, as well as fishing adventures in

Canada with his high school friends.

Bill’s legacy is defined by hard work, devotion to family, faith-filled mornings spent

jogging under the open sky, and a deep appreciation for nature’s beauty. His

memory will live on through those who knew him best—his family and friends who

will forever hold him close in their hearts.

May William H. Doody’s memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
