William Robert Gibbs, 81, of Albany IN, went to his Heavenly home on Friday September 12, 2008 at Community Hospital Anderson, IN surrounded by his family. He was born on March 30, 1927 in Muncie, IN the son of Albert and Kathryn (Klopfer) Gibbs
He was born in Delaware County to the late Albert and Kathryn Gibbs. He was a 1945 graduate of Royerton high school. In June of 1945 he joined the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service in the National Guard. He married the late Dorothy (Young) Gibbs in 1950. He retired in 1987 from Indiana Bell with 38 years of service. He was an active member of the DeSoto United Methodist Church, the Albany Lions Club and the Gideon''s International.
Surviving relatives include a wife; Kay Gibbs of Albany, son; David A. Gibbs of Fishers, IN, four daughters; Christine Osborn (husband Fred) of Cicero, IN, Catherine Gibbs of Indianapolis, IN, Linda Williamson (husband Marc) of Rochester, IN and Karen Fine ( husband Steve) of Indianapolis, IN. three step- sons, Rick Jeffers (wife Sherri), Andrew Jeffers and Jack Jeffers ( wife Angie). Seven grandchildren, Matthew, Alexandra Williamson, Jared, Zachary Osborn, Anthony, Andrew and Anna Gibbs, and seven step grandchildren, Brother Jay N. Gibbs (wife Jeane) of Ohio.
Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jean Imes, brother Everett Gibbs and a daughter-in-law Rhonda Gibbs.
Services will be Tuesday September 16, 2008 at 10:30a.m. at the Desoto United Methodist Church 6309 N. County Road 500 E. Muncie, IN, with 1 hour of visitation before service. Pastor Tom Watt will officiate the service. Viewing will be Monday September 15, 2008 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, with burial in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery of Muncie. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the DeSoto United Methodist Church or donors choice.
