MUNCIE  - William A. Imes, 78, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 17, 2023, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on May 3, 1944, in Kendallville, Ind., to the late Warren and Mae Evelyn (Miller) Imes. He graduated from Rome City High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees at Ball State University.

He and his wife of 57 years, Cheryl (Shepler), raised their family in Muncie, where he taught in the Muncie Community Schools and worked for Equitable Life Insurance Co. He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, The People of Praise, Raintree Woodcarvers, and was formerly on the board at The Soup Kitchen of Muncie.

William loved his family, watching baseball – especially the Chicago Cubs - and was a talented wood carver. He was beyond generous, kind, and a loyal friend. He was a proud grandparent who loved talking with his grandchildren and rarely missed one of their games.

William is survived by his wife Cheryl Imes, Muncie; his son Derrick Imes (Jennifer), Noblesville; daughter Marisa Delaney (Chad), Gaston; grandchildren Gabriel, William, Isabel, and Olivia; his sister Nancy Gleim (Rex) of Middlebury; his brother David Imes of Denver, Co.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to Noon on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 West Jackson St., Muncie, followed by a Funeral Mass at noon with Father Coady Owens officiating. Arrangements being handled by Garden View Funeral Home.
