William (Bill) Koger of Muncie, Indiana died in his home last week at the age of 73. His friends and family will miss him dearly, but we will remember him often for his wit, his sarcasm, and his lovable stubbornness. He was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He was loved and liked by many.

Bill was born at Ball Memorial Hospital to Ina Koger in 1945. He grew up in Muncie and graduated from Southside High School. In his youth, Bill enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with his brother James Koger. He also studied taekwondo and eventually earned a black belt.

Bill worked briefly at Goodyear Tire and as a real estate agent before finding his true passion as a teacher. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State University, Bill taught in the Muncie Community School System for over 30 years. He started his teaching career at Blaine Elementary, where he met his wife Mary Koger. Later, he taught at Sutton Elementary and Wilson Middle School. Like all good teachers, Bill loved learning. He spent most of his summers traveling the country with his family, visiting historic sites in over 40 states.

Bill's wife, Mary, died in 2015 from a long illness. He cared for her until the end. Loyalty and commitment were two of his best characteristics. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Foshee.  Bill has two children, Desiree and Mike. He talked about how proud he was of them to anyone who would listen. Bill also has 5 grandchildren – Brayden, Nathan, Nolan, Luke, and Mary. Bill is also survived by his brother, and best friend, James Koger.
