William Forrest Strahan, Jr., 87, of Muncie, IN died Thursday January 20, 2011 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was born on November 20, 1923 the son of William Forrest and Georgia Etta (Brees) Strahan. On February 14, 1945 in Denver, CO he married Ellen Lavon Young.
He graduated from Royerton High School and served in the US Army Air force during WWII.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardeningespecially roses. Watching the birds and squirrels at the feeder was a great past time. Everyone enjoyed being around him and he enjoyed making friends. He also enjoyed watching baseball on television.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 66 years, Lavon Strahan of Muncie, IN; two sons and three daughters, Jerry Strahan (wife: Rebecca) of Columbia, TN; Dick Strahan (wife: Janie) of Andrews, NC; Kathy White (husband: Matthew) of St. Charles, IL; Julia Marks (husband: Dale) of Columbus, IN; Peggy Henjum (husband: Mark) of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers, Eugene Strahan (wife: Patty) of Muncie, IN; Robert Strahan (wife: Jean Ann) of Muncie, IN; one sister-in-law, Jean Strahan; two brothers-in-law Keith Parkison and Ted Scott; twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Juanita Scott; and one brother, John Strahan.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 26th, 2011 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Carlton Bowden will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, IN. The Delaware County Honor Guard will honor him with military rites during the service. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be given to the Northside Assembly of God 711 W.
