Obituary

William F. Weist, Born 1927 in Chicago Illinois to Father Ernest Weist (born in Rensselaer, Indiana) and Mother Isabella Bertha Friedhof Weist (Born in Chicago Illinois). The Family moved to Winchester Indiana during the depression and then to Muncie, Indiana. He went to Blaine, Wilson and Central Schools. Served in the Navy 1945 = 1947 on a destroyer USS Shelton DD 790 in the Atlantic, also during the Korean War on Destroyer USS Ault DD 698 1950 = 1952. In the Pacific Oceans.

Married to Eleanor R. Wooten from Williamson, West Virginia on September 3, 1948
Eleanor was born Sept 3 1929. William and Eleanor was Husband and wife for 63 Years until her passing Dec 24, 2010.

They had two daughters Vicki S. Weist Current, Husband Fred of Cowan, In., Jan E. Weist Cheesman of Muncie, IN husband Randall and a son Mark A. Weist  Wife Karon of Rowlett, Texas that be loved very much.

Two brothers Robert Weist deceased and Donald E. Weist deceased. William and Donald had and maintained a very close bond to each other.

Five grandchildren and Nine Great grand children .all of which he loved and enjoyed. William worked In several jobs and then found his true niche when he started his last employment.

William worked at the Muncie Reclamation and supply Co. (Now the Muncie Transit Supply Co.) For thirty eight years prior to his retirement. He started there as a sales representative and worked within to Vice President to President of the company until his retirement. The business of the company was with the transit industry throughout the country. William had a strong love of the transit industry and the people he encountered.

The company started as a chrome plating specialty, but thru his devotion to the industry he was instrumental in changing the company to an innovating and highly respected supplier of not only replacement product but introduction of newer and innovative, efficient product that became standard to the industry. A standard that is still carried on by present management. Williams motto was as you travel thru life doing business stop along the way and make a friend, the most important aspect of business is the lasting friendships made.

He was a long time member and past chairman of the associate member of the American Public Transit Association. APTA. He served two terms on the prestigious Hall of Fame Committee. And he was awarded the APTA Meritorious Support of the Equipment and Maintenance Committee in October 1990. Mr. Weist devoted his time to help new people entering the industry and to his many friends he created country wide in the transit industry which he loved with a passion.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 46 and the Moose Lodge No. 33 of Muncie. Beyond his love of his family loved playing golf and billiards/pool.

Baptized Methodist but not a church attendant he still maintained a faith in God and doing the moral right with life and people.

Calling will be on Thursday September 22, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. St. Rd. 3 Muncie, IN 47303. Service will be at 1:00 P.M.  with Chaplain Phillip Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. Military Honors will be conducted by Delaware County Honor Guard.
