Wright Carson Payne, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, IN. He was born on February 9, 1921 in South Bend, IN to the late Reverend Glenn and India Ellen (Wright) Payne. Wright is a 1939 graduate of Hartford City High School. He also attended Marion College. On June 7, 1942 he married his love, W. Jeanette Garver in Hartford City. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from October 1942November 1945. And while serving he obtained training as a Marine Paratrooper.
Wright was employed as a tool maker at Yorktown Tool & Die for 17 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Indiana Historical Society and past member of the Minitrista Cultural Society. Wright enjoyed woodworking, miniature trains, and genealogy. He also belonged to the Avondale Sympathy Club.
Wright is survived by his 2 loving children: Judy Lybarger (husband, Jon) of Claypool, IN and Dwight Payne (wife, Mary Ann) of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.
Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, has been entrusted with arrangements. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Outreach Center, 1125 E. 9th Street, Rochester, IN. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to any local Gideon''s International.
