Ynona Ellen Smith Hammonds, a woman known for her profound kindness, unwavering generosity, and deep love for God, passed away peacefully at home in Muncie, Indiana, on July 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84 years old.
Born on May 2, 1941, in Colfax, Kentucky, Ynona was the cherished daughter of the late James Stewart and Arsula Caudill. She is survived by her dear brothers, Henry "Bill" Caudill, Verlin Caudill (Sheila), and Carl Ray Caudill (Pam). She was preceded in death by her brothers Vernon Caudill, Marvin Caudill, and Vinson Caudill, and her sisters Lou Caudill and Dottie Caudill.
Ynona dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for all who entered her home. She found joy and expressed her love through her talents in communicating Gods love, crocheting, and especially her wonderful cooking, which brought comfort and happiness to many.
She was married to Enos Edward Smith for 31 years until his passing on April 14, 1989. Later, she found companionship again with Arie Hammonds, whom she was married to for 17 years until his passing on February 16, 2008.
Ynona's legacy lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her sons, Roy Dewayne Smith (Andrea), Hobert Delray Smith (Melody), and Stephen Ray Smith (Jane). She was a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Marvin Edward Smith, who passed away on February 27, 2020.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team from Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional care and support, especially April, Laurie, Jocelen, Kayla, and Pastor Phil.
Ynona's gentle spirit, loving heart, and steadfast faith touched everyone she met. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2025 11:00 -12:00 with funeral service being from 12:00 to 1:00 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N State Road 3, Muncie Indiana
