Obituary

Zona L. Ferguson, 84, of Muncie, IN died Friday July 11, 2008 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. She was born in Jamestown, TN on December 8, 1923 the daughter of George W. and Sarah Emma (Burke) Slaven. She served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She was a 1st Class Petty Officer in the Medical Corp from 1945 - 1947. On August 5, 1946 in Oakland, CA she married Curtis L. Ferguson who preceded her in death.
Zona was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting Ball jars, gardening flowers and vegetables, traveling, crossword puzzles, and keeping up with current events and politics. She enjoyed volunteering and assisting others where she lived. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the WWII Women's Memorial.
Surviving relatives include one son, Clifton Joe Ferguson of Muncie, IN; four daughters, Jessie Yvonne Mangus (husband: Robert) of Redkey, IN; Melba A. Slaven of Muncie, IN; Terri L. Segotta (husband: J. Neil) of Raton, NM; Diane Evans of Fresno, CA; ten grandchildren, Stephen Douglas Bartels (wife: Heather) of New Mexico; Melena A. Slaven (husband: Rick Jones) of Saipan, MP; Robert A. Mangus (wife: Paula) of Muncie, IN; John T. Mangus (fianc: Lisa Sedwick) of Muncie, IN; Kelsey Ferguson of Muncie, IN; Christy Holton of Muncie, IN; Lora Barber of Indianapolis, IN; Sarah Ferguson of Angola, IN; John D. Ferguson (wife: Erin) and Michael K. Ferguson both of South Bend, IN. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Judy Cruea; one son, Kevin Ferguson; one granddaughter, Michelle Cruea; three brothers, Robert R., Charles W., and Maj. Onva R. Slaven, three sisters, Evelyn D. Colter, Dorothy C. Sells, and Lola B. Rhodes.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday July 14, 2008 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Tim Keating will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the LifeStream Services, Inc. (Meals on Wheels) 1701 S. Pilgrim Blvd Yorktown, IN 47396. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
